Although there hasn’t been much visible artwork shared over the past few weeks, creativity has still been very much alive behind the scenes. Sometimes stepping back allows ideas and techniques to settle — quietly shaping what comes next.

This week, I’ll be returning to the charcoal drawing of Garreth, picking up where the earlier studies left off. The plan is to make steady progress from Tuesday, with the aim of completing the portrait by Thursday. The practice sketches have laid solid foundations, and the piece is already starting to capture the calm strength I’ve been working towards.

Charcoal demands patience and subtlety — every line carries weight, and each soft shadow can alter the entire character of a portrait. Garreth’s expression, one of disbelief and quiet triumph after completing one of the hardest rows across the Atlantic, is beginning to take shape. It’s a moment of exhaustion and pride balanced in a single glance — the kind of emotion that only reveals itself through restraint.

As the portrait develops, I’m reminded that creativity isn’t always loud or constant; sometimes it’s found in the quiet persistence of refining and reworking until something honest begins to emerge.
